Construction Basics and Printreading

Course Description:

The emphasis of this course is on residential construction. During this course, students will start with basic construction language, symbols, and print reading fundamentals. Proper use of the architect's scale and understanding the different scales and their uses will be taught. Mathematics for the construction industry will be covered. The main emphasis of this course will be to prepare the students to function at the job site when reading prints, completing layouts, and doing math calculations needed to properly build a project. Proper design, layout, and construction of a shed will be our main project during the course. Note: This is an articulated class earning 2 NORTHWOOD credits and 3 dual credits at CVTC in Eau Claire or River Falls. A lab fee of $5 is required. Eligible to earn 1 Laude point per semester.
